Local Service Directory with AI-Written Review Summaries
Aggregate publicly available reviews for local service businesses, use AI to write summaries, rank by neighborhood. Monetize with featured listings.
The Concept
A directory site for local service businesses (plumbers, electricians, cleaning services, etc.) that pulls publicly available review data, runs it through an LLM to produce plain-language summaries, and organizes results by city and neighborhood.
Why It Might Work
- Local service SEO is not dominated by smart operators — most top results are Yelp and Angi
- Review summaries that actually answer “is this person reliable and on time?” are more useful than star ratings
- Featured listing monetization is proven in this category
- Data sourcing is technically doable without scraping anything private
What You’d Need to Build
- Data pipeline for review aggregation
- LLM summarization layer with quality controls
- City/neighborhood taxonomy (painful but one-time)
- Basic directory frontend
- Outbound sales process for featured listings
Concerns
High effort, slow to monetize, legally ambiguous if review sourcing isn’t careful. Also some review platforms have been known to be litigious about review data.
Current Status
Researching the legal landscape for review aggregation. Not started.
